WBCN Rock and Roll Rumble (Semi-Finals, Night #2)
Harpers Ferry, Allston MA
I'm thrilled that Harpers Ferry is hopping early on a Saturday for the Rumble semi-finals, because Age Rings is pumped by the crowd's energy, and vice versa. Front man Ted Billings seems in fine voice tonight (I'd heard he was fighting a cold for the prelims) and deftly leads the charge into full-on indie pop hellraising. Age Rings is a sound best suited for a full set, veering as they do between upbeat indie tunes, synth-drenched pop and hard-hitting rhythmic rockers. "Calm Down" starts as one and morphs into the other, so let's call that the "hit." Age Rings is all about cool rock and irresistible hooks and I'm sold.
