...Caged Heat went on next and stirred things up. Way up. These four punk/blues hellcats have been playing their asses off lately and it shows. I've seen this band many times, and tonight's set shows marked maturity. Jill Kurtz' Joan Jett-like voice was in top form, while Ando and Scott (bass and drums) played like they share a brain. They churned out old favorites, including the radio single "Man's Fate," but added new elements like back-up vocals from guitarist Kyle Keenan. I didn't even know Kyle could sing. I predict that "Turn Around," a power-punk tune with a delicious hook, will be the stand-out single from the Heat's debut CD. (Review originally appeared in The Noise, Issue 196, November 1999)
