Live Review

Ramona put together an exceptional band for tonight. We were treated to Ian Kennedy on guitar, the barefoot Chandler Travis on bass, John Sands on drums, and back-up vocals by the lovely Patty Barkus. They lost no time getting into it with "Adapter" from 1995's You and Me and Hell (Fingerprint Records). When Ramona performs "Woman," a terrific break-up song by Danny Horrid and originally recorded by his band Hezze in 1995, it always rocks the crowd. Tonight, "Woman" was even better than usual thanks to gorgeous added vocals from Travis and thoughtful freestyling throughout from guitarist Ian Kennedy. As a special treat, Ramona included two brand new songs in the set. Both pop tunes were rich with hooks and harmony, one of them ending in an electrifying full-band chorus singing pitch-perfect "doo doo ah's." I know these guys couldn't have had much rehearsal time, but this song came off so well that Ramona herself clapped joyfully when it was over. Make no bones about it, the level of musical aptitude on stage was scary good.
